Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.

Many have focused on changing the game by adding new unmarked locations, fresh movement animations, and tougher bandits to it, with a few even going as far as giving you the chance to rock some butterfly wings or giving you the chance to become high priest of your own temple.

If your Dragonborn is currently milling around at home in need of a meaty questline to tempt them back into pursuing a life of adventure, a massive new mod might be worth adding to your load order.

Feel like delving into a new choice and consequence-heavy Daedric storyline in Skyrim?

The mod in question is called ‘There is No Umbra - Chapter III’, and is the work of a group of modders and voice actors led by Fableforge. In addition to producing two previous chapters of this particular quest mod, which you can find here and here, they’ve also brought some extra kick to the game’s melee attacks.

This time, the team behind those first two parts of ‘There Is No Umbra’ have released a third, which comes as a standalone mod and even incorporates both of the already released chapters to create a single DLC-sized questline, meaning it’s all you’ll need even if you’re starting from scratch.

Within the brand new chapter 3 content, you’ll find a number of fully-voice acted quests, which you can get a taste of via the trailer below, that continue the story of Daumbra, a character who is “the newest incarnation of the cursed sword Umbra”, the Daedric artefact of Clavicus Vile that’s featured in Oblivion and available via Skyrim’s creation club.

These missions will force you to make a lot of difficult and impactful decisions, with Fableforge outlining: “There are many big choices in this mod, and many endings to make them matter. No two people will experience this story in the exact same way.”

Thankfully, there are plenty of cool rewards on offer to make all of the thinking worth it, including unique powers that’ll allow you to do things like ‘wear’ different bodies, teleport enemies away from you and even steal weapons from your enemies.

If that sounds fun, make sure you’ve grabbed the Skyrim Script Extender and Felisky384’s ‘Dynamic Animation Replacer', as well as powerofthree and sasnikol’s ‘Spell Perk Item Distributor (SPID)’ first, as they’re all required to get things working as intended.
