For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield, which is now pencilled in for September 6, can’t come soon enough.

Regardless of what you want to see from the next showcase of Bethesda's venture into space, how many interstellar mods you plan to install once it arrives or whether you think you’ll be playing as ‘The Novakiin’, the idea of being able to delve into a freshly curated game has RPG lovers of all stripes intrigued.

Recently though, a few of the fans who’ve spent the last few months speculating and worrying about the game have banded together to try and convince one of their number not to swap ships with a gang of interstellar buccaneers.

Are you planning on racing dodgy smugglers for their pink slips in Starfield?

These attempts to avert disaster form the subject of a recent thread on the Starfield subreddit, which began with a post from user derekgr, who kicked things off by posting a screenshot from a Constellation Questions episode with Todd Howard which sees the player taking to what looks to a space pirate and saying: “I really hope we can actually trade ships with these pirates and it's not just some pointless dialogue line that leads to combat.”

A bunch of their fellow would-be astronauts were quick to point out that the exchange in question doesn’t seem likely to lead to a friendly swapping of rides, with user JoJoisaGoGo arguing: “I highly doubt you (can) trade ships, that's clearly a line to (sarcastically) try and convince them not to take your ship (by force).”

Similarly, user Mister6307 cited the other dialogue options in the tree as evidence that derekgr might regret their decision, saying: “This is clearly a situation where you're already hostile with the guy. Notice the line ‘I just made it past your entire crew.’”

Others used the situation as the impetus for a referendum on whether the speculative tendencies of the game’s online fans are starting to get a little bit too overzealous, with user TheLostViking musing: “I subscribed to this (subreddit) to see updates about the game, but I see a lot of the same things that were happening before Cyberpunk (2077) came out. People fuelling an echo chamber and then getting disappointed when all the speculated features don't make it in.”

Regardless of whether you’re debating logging off so you don’t end up disappointed that you can’t take on the guise of an intergalactic used car salesman and offload your ship to some raiders once the mileage gets too high, make sure to follow us for lots of guides to Starfield’s world and mechanics.
