While a lot of Cyberpunk 2077 players are already imagining how sweet life will be when the Phantom Liberty Expansion arrives and they can ditch their old flame Keanu Reeves for a fresh celebrity companion in Idris Elba, some are still hanging out in Night City while they wait.

The average day experienced by these veteran players can move at a pretty breakneck pace, given that they spend a lot of time shooting their way through cybernetically-enhanced foes to simply survive on the dangerous streets of CD Projekt Red’s urban jungle.

That said, if you’re the kind of choom who still likes to slow it down every once in a while and take in the sights and details of Night City, rather than always blasting through it at high speed, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.

Feel like Cyberpunk 2077's world could do with a stunning new graphical coat of paint?

The mod in question is called ‘Cyberpunk 2077 HD Reworked Project’ and is the work of prolific modder HalkHogan.

They’ve decided to deliver a massive overhaul to Cyberpunk’s environments that’s just as detailed and extensive as their previous projects, ‘Fallout 4 HD Reworked Project Revised’ and ‘The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project’, the latter of which you might recognise from the list of mods incorporated into The Witcher 3’s next-gen update by CDPR.

This latest undertaking: “aims to improve (Cyberpunk 2077’s) graphics by reworking game assets to (be of a) better quality, (while) preserving (the) original art style and good performance (stability).”

As you can see in the preview video above, the textures of a huge array of different surfaces throughout the city and its surrounding badlands have been upscaled in a manner that’ll allow you to look as closely at buildings and terrain as you want without having your immersion shattered by low-res visuals.

The mod comes in two different forms, with the ‘Balanced’ version striving to deliver the visual upgrades in a way that won’t cause those running graphics cards without tons of memory to experience performance issues.

Meanwhile, the ‘Ultra Quality’ file is aimed at providing the best visuals possible for those with 2K or 4K displays and a graphics card that can handle high amounts of VRAM.
