The Saints Row reboot is almost here, but there's one key question lingering over the release. Anyone familiar with Volition's iconic crime series knows it is renowned for its wacky cast of characters, leaving one thing uncertain: is Johnny Gat in the Saints Row remake?

In this Saints Row guide, we'll break down whether Johnny Gat makes an appearance in the new game or not. We already know that this reboot is set in an entirely different city with new gangsters at your behest, but it wouldn't be the first time that Johnny Gat made a surprise appearance. Let's take a look!

Does Johnny Gat appear in the Saints Row remake?

Unfortunately, Johnny Gat does not appear in the new Saints Row game. As you build up your own criminal empire in San Ileso, the presence of everyone's favourite glasses-wearing gangster is notably absent.

While it may not be the news most Saints Row fans wanted to hear, it doesn't come as too much of a surprise. When this reboot was first announced at Gamescom 2021, Gat's voice actor Daniel Dae Kim was quick to respond. Having been asked whether he was returning on Twitter, this is what he had to say:

Unless there was any major change during the last year of development, Johnny Gat is still not likely to appear. In the base version of the game at least, Gat is completely absent. Of course, that's not to say that he may not appear in future DLC. Given 2015's Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell was all about Gat returning from the annals of the afterlife, truly anything could happen.

We last saw Johnny Gat in 2017's Agents of Mayhem, as a pre-order bonus for those getting in early on Volition's newest IP. Given that game had a similarly wacky tone to the later Saints Row games, his inclusion made sense. With this remake going for a different style, compared to the tongue-in-cheek humour of the original, Gat may not fit this new interpretation of the franchise.

Therefore, those devout to Johnny Gat will have to replay the first four Saints Row games to revisit his adventures, rather than expecting him to show up in San Ileso. With this reboot trying to stamp its mark as a standalone entry and new beginning for the franchise, it seems most logical to veer away from the original continuity's most iconic figurehead.

That's it for our look at whether Johnny Gat appears in the new Saints Row game or not! While it's bad news for now, you can never say never when it coems to post-launch DLC. Until then, feel free to read up on the voice actors and cast in this new game.
