Which Steelrising class should you pick?

If you have just started the game, here's our answer to which Steelrising class you should pick. With four central classes, all sporting different stats and weapons, you may be confused as to which one suits your particular style the best. Luckily, there's quite a lot of leniency here.

As well as going over the main selling point of all the classes, we'll go over our favourite class and what that means long-term. The game is all about figuring out what works for you so don't be afraid to experiment.

If you're looking for more information on the game, here's what we know about the Steelrising release date and preorder bonuses. Here's what we think about the potential of Steelrising on Game Pass and check out our coverage of the Nacon Connect event, where the game was announced.

Steelrising classes explained

You can pick four central classes at the very start of the game. To give you an idea of how they are supposed to be played, this is what we know about all of them.

Bodyguard

The bodyguard class is, as the name might imply, a tank. With an increase to durability and engineering, they have a focus on health and armor. The main weapon is a big hammer-like object with a special move that activates a shield.

Their extra item is a grenade that immobilises an enemy, allowing you to get hits in. If you want to withstand hits and swing hard, this is the best choice.

Soldier

The soldier is essentially a powerful DPS class. They weild a halberd that can be used to hit enemies from range. Their special move hits from an even greater distance. Added power and vigour increases your damage and endurance respectively.

Their item is an explosive grenade, capable of knocking an enemy over. This class has less health than the Bodyguard class but higher potential damage - a good tradeoff.

Dancer

If you're a fan of Bloodborne, the dancer is probably the best class for you. With a focus on endurance and agility, they are designed to literally dance around the enemy, with a flurry of hits. Their special move is a light fan that can also be used to block.

Their special item is a flame grenade that is explosive and can ignite an enemy, causing prolonged damage.

Alchemist

The alchemist is the closest Steelrising gets to a magic class. They hold batons that can be used to infuse your weapon with frost. If you do enough damage, you can freeze an enemy on the spot. With a bonus to alchemy and engineering, they gain increased damage to special effects and slightly better armour.

Their item is an alchemical resistance vial, leaving you less vulnerable to alchemical attacks.

Though my personal favourite class was the Dancer due to their speed, your starting class really doesn't matter very much. Any stat can be upgraded when you level up and all starting weapons can be bought from the shop. If you hate your class, level up a bit and change your weapons out. A rogue point into another attribute won't hurt you long-term.

Don't worry too much and just get out there.
