It opens the door for further crossovers down the line and elaborating further, Clémence Nogrix, Associate Creative Director at Ubisoft Quebec, stated:

The Assassin’s Creed content is connected by characters, lore, locations, eras, motivations and more. We had so much fun imagining how interesting the encounter would be between two of our main Assassin’s Creed heroes, we may want to explore new paths in the future

In what shape those crossovers will take remains unclear, though it could potentially tie-in with the upcoming Assassin's Creed Infinity. For now, Assassin's Creed Crossover Stories arrives later today, and you can watch the trailer above. We'll keep you informed with further Dawn of Ragnarok details as we hear them.
