First announced back in March, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… (which we’ll refer to simply as Nier Replicant from here on out) is a high-def remaster of the original 2010 Nier.

Square Enix is calling this “a modern re-telling of the classic RPG that features updated visuals, new character illustrations by Nier: Automata character designer Akihiko Yoshida, and even a newly recorded soundtrack by composer Keiichi Okabe.”

Nier Replicant release date

The remaster comes out April 23, 2021.

Nier Replicant’s story premise

Given that Nier Replicant is based on a version of the original game released exclusively in Japan, it’s probably best to think of this simply as a prequel to 2017’s acclaimed Nier: Automata.

“The protagonist is a kind young man living in a remote village,” publisher Square Enix writes. “In order to save his sister Yonah, who fell terminally ill to the Black Scrawl, he sets out with Grimoire Weiss, a strange talking tome, to search for the ‘Sealed Verses.’”

Nier Replicant platforms and price

Both editions of the game are available for pre-order.

The game will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam for $59.99 USD.

Nier Replicant White Snow collector’s edition

The White Snow Edition costs $159.99 and comes with the following:

  • “Lunar Tear” collector’s box
  • Steelbook case featuring art by Koda Kazuma
  • A set of Grimoire Weiss, Grimoire Noir, and Grimoire Rubrum pins
  • Seven books, including the game’s spoken script
  • A special hard case by character designer Akihiko Yoshida
  • Two-disc soundtrack; disc two is exclusive to the White Snow box

It’s available exclusively from the Square Enix Store.
