Disney and Tencent Collaborate for Avatar MMO, Launches This Year

Disney and Tencent are teaming up for an upcoming MMORPG based on James Cameron's Avatar. Calling this Avatar: Reckoning, this joint project's due to launch for mobile devices later this year, built in Unreal Engine 4.

Offering an MMORPG title for iOS and Android, Reckoning will include both single-player and multiplayer content, the latter of which can be PvP or co-op. That'll involve exploring "never-before-seen parts" of Avatar's world.

Presently, Disney and Tencent haven't released a trailer, only offering a singular screenshot for the game. While we don't have much to go on currently, a press release confirmed this outline:

Meet new Na'vi clans fighting to defend their home, battle powerful RDA troops seeking to exploit the resources of the moon, and encounter spectacular alien creatures.

For now, we'll have to wait for more details like a solid release window. On the other end, Ubisoft is also developing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which similarly has a release window for this year. We'll keep you informed on further Avatar: Reckoning news as we hear more.
