September 26, 2022: Wrath Classic launches today!

As you're leveling through World of Warcraft's new Classic expansion, Wrath of the Lich King Classic, one of the things that you'll be doing is dungeons. If you've never done these dungeons before, then one of the first ones that you'll come across is Utgarde Keep. This is where our Utgarde Keep Dungeon guide can be of some assistance.

These dungeons can be pretty difficult at lower gear and levels, so we'll be detailing the dungeon in it's entirety to help you get through it! Utgarde Keep is the first dungeon in the expansion that you'll face, so it's not too bad.

While you're here, if you're looking to figure out what class and spec you want to play in Wrath Classic, be sure to check out our DPS tier list, Healer tier list, and Tank tier list. Also be sure to check out our speed leveling guide.

Utgarde Keep dungeon guide

Upon entering the dungeon, you'll meet a long hallway of mobs. You should pull these in separate groups if you can for ease of killing them. Once you get into the big circular room, you'll head right, pulling all the mobs as you see them. After you kill the second pack in this room, head through the door and you'll find yourself at a proto-drake pen.

Hang an immediate right upon entering, and pull the handler and drake on the right, and pull them back into the corner. After killing them hug the rightside wall to avoid pulling anything in the middle. Kill the next pair, and then the trio of two handlers and a drake, continuing to hug the right side. Head through the door to meet the first boss.

Prince Keleseth

Prince Keleseth sits in a circular room and has three main abilities to deal with.

Shadow Bolt: Casts a bolt at a random player dealing shadow damage

Frost Tomb: Encases a player in ice, stunning them for 20 seconds. This block can be broken by attacking and killing the tomb.

Vrykul Skeleton: Keleseth summons skeletons that cast Decrepify on players, which reduces their Strenght and Movement for 10 seconds. These skeletons will be resummoned after 20 seconds of them dying.

This fight is pretty straight forward. Tank Keleseth where he stands. DPS should focus down the Ice Tombs when they pop up, and cleave down the skeletons. The Decrepify is a disease so it can be cleansed.

After the boss is down, head through the next door. Pull the first overseer and the four ghouls. From here, you can clear everything out one pack at a time, or you can try and huge the left side wall and take out the lone two ghouls there. Once you get to the half stairset, you can try and cross over and huge the right side wall and take care of the ghouls there. This is a bit tricky to do with a group, so if you're in the dungeon finder, you should just pull the mobs.

Head up the stairs and continue through. At the top of the large staircase, you can pull the patrol by itself, and then take on the larger pack at the top of the stairs. Head through the door, clearing out the ghouls to reach the next boss.

Skarvald and Dalronn

The next encounter has two bosses baked into this fight. Here are the abilities to deal with here.

Skarvald:

  • Charge
  • Stone Strike
  • Enrage
  • The Ghost of Skarvald

Dalronn

  • Shadow Bolt
  • Debilitate
  • Summon Skeletons
  • The Ghost of Dalronn

For this fight, there's a couple things to keep in mind here. Each boss has an ability that if they are killed, they will become an untargetable ghost that will continue to fight. Your goal here is to try and kill these two at roughtly the same time as to mitigate the downsides of this.

Additionally, the tank will want to use some mitigation for the Engrage of Skarvald, and you'll want to be on top of interrupting the Summon Skeletons ability of Dalronn. You can let the Shadow Bolt go, but keeping the area clear of additional mobs is very important.

After the boss is dead, head up the stairs. If you hug the stair case pillar, you can skip the pack of mobs at the bottom. Head all the way up the staircase, and through the outside passage until you get to the final boss.

Ingvar, the Plunderer

There are two phases to this boss. Here's the abilities for phase one.

  • Smash: Frontal cone
  • Cleave: Cleave attack
  • Staggering Roar
  • Enrage

For phase one, this is a pretty simple beat'em up fight. The only thing to keep in mind here is to stop casting during Staggering Roar, as it will interrupt your cast. The tank should again use some mitigation during the Enrage. Once you kill him in phase one, he will be brought back to life with a new set of abilities.

  • Dark Smash
  • Shadow Axe
  • Dreadful Roar
  • Woe Strike

This is where the fight gets a little more hectic. Dark Smash is still a frontal cone, but will stun players hit as well as inflict shadow damage. His Shadow Axe will get thrown at a random player and start spinning on the ground, so move out of that. Dreadful Roar is like Staggering Roar, but will now also inflict shadow damage to you. Finally Woe Strike is a hit and curse placed on the hit player. Any healing that they receive will be dealt as damage to the healer. This is a curse, so it should be dispelled immediately.

And that's the dungeon! This is one of the eaiser dungeons to go through, so it shouldn't be too challenging for your first go through. It's also the first one you'll encounter.
