Control 2 - Release date, pre-orders, and platforms

Now that we know it's official, you may be looking for the Control 2 release date. This is everything we know about the game so far, plus some extra information on platforms, pre orders, and much more.

Given the first game was a uniquely mind-bending experience, it makes sense that it would take some time to really nail down the tone and story for a Control sequel. Though we don't know all that much so far, we can have a good guess as to how it should work.

Control 2 is official! A new blog post on the Remedy website confirmed the existence of a sequel to the 2019 mind-bender. The game will be published in conjunction with 505 Games, though we know little else so far.

What is the Control 2 release date?

In the announcement post confirming the existence of Control 2, it was declared at the very end that this announcement would not "have an impact on Remedy's outlook for 2022". While this is expected, it suggests that the game is still very early on in development. We likely won't see Control 2 for a few more years.

A short statement was made on the game by Mikael Kasurinen, the Game Director. In this, it was confirmed that the game but are still some time away from an official release. Kasurinen said:

With Control, we leaped into the unknown. We wanted to create something new. Something different and unexpected. A world like no other. Thank you, the audience, for making Control such a success for us.

With Control 2, we’ll take another leap into the unknown. It’ll be an unexpected journey. It’ll take a while, but to put it mildly, this is the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. It’s still early days, but it will be worth the wait.

What platforms will Control 2 be on?

The first Control game released on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. It seems likely that Control 2 will release on the current generation of consoles for certain. Given how far away it still is, we may not see it releasing on the previous generation by that point.

This being said, Control running on Nintendo Switch was a bit of a miracle, only working thanks to cloud technology. As such, it's highly unlikely that the sequel will release on Nintendo's platform. However, by the time it launches a Switch successor could be out there. Who knows whether Control 2 will release on that platform?

Control 2 pre order information

Generally speaking, we won't see the ability to pre order Control 2 until we have some sort of official release window. This means we are likely to see the game's pre orders go live at some point in late 2023, maybe early 2024.

With it, we may see a collectors edition with some fun little goodies, and the standard edition, with the game on release.
