ASUS Rog Swift PG42UQ Specs
One of the key features here is the OLED panel, which provides near-infinite contrast and vivid colour.
Note that this is an OLED monitor and not a QD-OLED (quantum dot OLED) which features in monitors like the Alienware 3423DW and Samsung's Odyssey G8QNB.

We'll have to see it for ourselves, but it's largely agreed that QD-OLED offers higher peak brightness than traditional OLED.
The differences are quite complex as you'd imagine, but put simply, QD-OLED emits blue light through quantum dots and can convert it into red and green without the need for a colour filter.

That being said, improvements to OLED started happening a while ago via LG and their Evo OLED displays, and we're now going to get pixels that are brighter than ever before with the recently released LG C2 range.
The ASUS panel itself is said to boast 98% DCI-P3 coverage, 4K resolution, and true 10-bit colour, so we're expecting big things when it comes to both gaming and streaming.
Interestingly, if you're not keen on glossy gaming monitors, it even features an anti-glare coating for distraction-free gaming even in well-lit rooms.
On the gaming front, you're getting everything you'd expect from true HDMI 2.1. That means 4K, 120hz refresh rate, VRR, and ALLM.

Response time is a super low 0.1ms, which is impressive considering how large the screen is. While such a size may not be optimum for competitive gaming, it's good to know that more immersive titles will still benefit from this.
But what about the dreaded 'burn in'? Well, it looks like the ASUS Rog Swift PG42UQ has a custom cooling solution to keep operating temperatures to around 60° via a large custom heatsink.
This allows for a peak brightness of 900 nits while reducing the impact on long-term performance. To put that brightness in perspective, that's around the same level that the new LG G2 OLED-Evo TVs.
Sound like a win in our books, but will they go the way of Alienware and offer a three-year warranty too? Here's hoping.
