Nintendo Warns Switch Owners As Temperatures Soar

Japanese publisher Nintendo has taken to Twitter to warn players of the issues that could be caused by using the Switch handheld console in extreme heat.

The advice offered is particularly relevant to us UK-based Switch gamers right now, with temperatures forecasted to get close to the 35-degree mark, which Nintendo has designated as an upper bound for optimal use of the console.

Posted via the publisher’s Japanese customer service account on Twitter, the warning also encourages players to make sure their Switch is well ventilated.

Be Careful Using Your Switch if Temps Soar Over 35 Degrees

In the tweet, Nintendo warns: “If you use the Nintendo Switch in a hot place, the temperature of the main unit may become high. Please use a place of 5 to 35 ℃.”

The reason for this is explained in a follow-up tweet, which states: “If the temperature of the main unit becomes too high, it may sleep automatically to protect the main unit.”

So, what can you do to ensure this doesn’t happen?

Well, first of all, Nintendo urges you to think about ventilation, saying: “if the intake and exhaust ports are blocked, the temperature of the main unit may rise. Make the air (flow) around the intake and exhaust ports better.”

Secondly, consider where you’re sitting down if you plan to play in TV mode, as if you plan to do this, Nintendo advises that you: “install the Nintendo Switch Dock in a location that does not retain heat.

Finally, you might want to give the device a careful clean as Nintendo recommends: “If there is foreign matter or dust on the air intake/exhaust port of the main unit, remove it with a vacuum cleaner.”

Though, whatever you do, don’t try to disassemble the main unit of your Switch.
